The subject proposed for debate was Using Games as Warm up or Energizer during the General English classes. The games presented are useful to introduce both language or grammar lessons. They are dynamic and surely to be enjoyed by students.

Hot Air Balloon

Students are arranged in groups and they pick different characters. Their characters are supposed to be in a balloon that has difficulties in the air. They have to throw overboard one by one the characters voted. The activity is very good for practicing language of argumentation and debate.

True Confession Toothpicks is a useful game for grammar practice. One sentence is put up: I have never driven a car. If students have done that they put down a toothpick. The reasons why they have done or haven’t done a certain thing is not compulsory.

Teaching science using CLIL Bilingual method

When speaking of CLIL two aspects are to be considered. One which is based on the use of one language in the process of teaching and is called immersion, and the other which is bilingual, implying the use of mother tongue along with the foreign language in the same lesson being taught by the subject teacher.

We will plead for CLIL bilingual teaching of Art and Science subjects as they offer the students a better way of transferring knowledge along with the improvement of CALP. Having in mind the global world of economy that we live in, the CALP competencies are vital for the new inhabitant of this world.

This time I will refer to a Biology lesson that used Romanian and English.

The lesson had as a main objective the digestive system and was taught to students of intermediate English level in a bilingual school. The lesson was conducted by a subject teacher (biology teacher) with a level of English of First Cambridge Certificate.

The students were arranged by the teacher in groups of four according to their interest in the subject and language. Each group was given different worksheets with tasks about digestive system in Romanian. After studying their task a speaker was selected to move to another group and share information with the new group. In this way all class was accustomed to generalities regarding the digestive system. Then the teacher gave each group a word card containing the basic English terminology to help the students express the information they have in English. They were also asked to complete the word cards with any necessary words using the dictionaries each group had on their desk. In the end each group presented certain aspects of the subject in English. As a feedback a chart was completed both in Romanian and in English.

At the end of the lesson the students were asked to give their opinion on the lesson. All subjects said the lesson helped them remember better the terms and the processes involved and enjoyed the lesson more than a lesson taught only in mother tongue. When asked to compare it with British History which is taught through immersion the students said that both methods are useful and they make the subjects more interesting and approachable.

The teachers attending the lesson also agreed that CLIL methodology develops the critical thinking better and also improves the bilingual skills in students. The bilingual competence will enable students later to move freely through the information in different languages and communicate at all social economical or political levels.

Sedinta Comisiei Metodice s-a desfasurat astazi la Liceul Teoretic Gh. Sincai si a avut ca tema utilizarea tablei interactive si a cursurilor online in cadrul orelor de limba engleza. Prof. Adriana Vuscan(liceul Gh.

Prima lectie apare si in cadrul “Science Methodology” al portalului European etwinning.net in cadrul “Math and Science Teachers Group” cu acces – link-ul:          http://groups.etwinning.net/c/portal/layout?p_l_id=14782 pe site-ul scolii
